Hey there Cambridge,
Recently, we had a Camera Shots Quiz. What made this quiz cooler than a traditional quiz was that it was project based. Instead of answering questions about what shot is what, we had to partner up and create a story using visuals/pictures. Our teacher instructed us to take 15 shots, using two main subjects, to create a story. The pictures we take must be utilizing the camera shots we learned so far in class. Thus, she gave us a list of camera shots and angles we must include, and each pair of students had to apply what they know!
My partner and I first planned out the story. We were in a classroom, so the easiest main subject we could think of was a pencil. That is when I got the idea to portray a story of a pencil being ignorantly and carelessly used between multiple students overtime. We made a chart to detail the order of each picture we will take, what the shot will illustrate, and what camera shot it will be. Once our teacher approved of or story, we began taking the pics!
Our two main subjects were a pencil and me or my partner. We went through our chart, which already had the shots listed chronologically, and applied what we knew about camera shots and how they look by taking landscape photos on my phone.
Once we had every image, we put it all into a PowerPoint (embedded below). Each slide shows the shots in order of the story, along with a description stating which shot it is and its purpose in relation to our storyline.
One of the best parts of the story is definitely its meaning and symbolism. It isn't about a pencil, but instead portrays the effect being used by other people has on a person. I also think our establishing shot worked perfectly to initiate the story's setting as a classroom. Our high and low angle shots fit into our storyline fluidly too. I feel like our mid-shots were quite literally mid (LOL) and that we could have made them better, but at least they served its purpose.
So that is all about our first media studies quiz of the school year!
From,
Macie 💗
